Five new members were elected to the BikeHouston board at our 2010 Annual Meeting.
The new members are: Aaron Chang; Darren Sabom; Joel Bloom, Ph.D.; Tom Compson; and Tom Wurth. They replace outgoing board members Kat Baumeister, David Dick, Jackie Friedman, Regina Garcia and Woody Speer – all of whom had served for six years and were term limited by the organization’s Bylaws.
Speer, the outgoing chair, opened the meeting by outlining the helmet donations and bike education events supported by BikeHouston. For 2010, BikeHouston’s priorities are completing the City of Houston Bikeway Project, full accommodation of bicycles on METRORail, and a Safe Passing Ordinance for the City of Houston.
In her keynote presentation, Gina Mitteco (Bicycle & Pedestrian Coordinator for the Houston-Galveston Area Council) outlined the Regional Bikeway Plan and explained how H-GAC uses four strategies to improve mobility for cyclists – regional corridors, special districts, livable centers and optimization of all available transportation investments.
Special guests included Robin Stallings (executive director from BikeTexas) and Dan Raine (Bicycle & Pedestrian Coordinator for the City of Houston). Robin provided a legislative update and end-of-year highlights from BikeTexas.

Kat Baumeister presented the financial report for the fiscal year ending December 2009. The meeting was preceded by a reception hosted by El Meson restaurant.
