A Word From Our Director………. John Long

I ride my bike to work just about every day and then on the weekends for fun. All of those rides don’t compare to the rollercoaster ride October was. The month was packed full of events but the big one — other than the Astros’ playoff games and World Series — was our 45th Moonlight Ramble. Delays in our T-shirt order definitely threw a wrench in the works, but in the end, our staff and volunteers pulled it off masterfully. Discovery Green and Avenida de las Americas provided a great venue and the ride and after party was fabulous. We want to thank you all who participated and we hope to see you next year.

Now is time to focus on November which kicks off with Cigna Sunday Streets on the 5th. There’s a great volunteer opportunity to help us set up a Pop-Up bike lane at 11:00. Our goal is to show how to make a street safer for cyclists. This Sunday Streets event will be like no other. Our bike lane will use materials donated from TranTex, the Houston Public Works and Engineering Department, and Asakura Robinson to create a bike lane that could be implemented TODAY by the City of Houston. In fact, it will look a lot like the bike lane on Lamar Street downtown.

Come join us at Sunday Streets to lend your support.  And want to extend your World Series euphoria one more day?  Ride along with BikeHouston to the Astros victory parade — departing from BikeHouston office (616 Hawthorne) at 1:00 pm Friday.
