Featured Ride: South Houston Bike Ride

If you are looking for a family-style ride in Southeast Houston, check out the bi-monthly Tuesday night ride that starts at 698 Georgia Street. Meet at 6:30pm, rollout at 7pm. The so-called South Houston Bike Ride – also known as TacoTown Ride, hosts a ride the first and third Tuesday of each month. This is a social bike ride for all ages. The ride will be for 10-15 miles and speeds of 10-12 mph with a midpoint. Just be aware that by the time you head back, it might be twilight or dark, and that lights are required by law in Houston. They have a Facebook group that you can join to stay in touch with all the details about upcoming rides. Join here....
June 2015 Critical Mass

June 2015 Critical Mass

Critical Mass is the largest regular bike ride in Houston. The May 2015 Critical Mass was estimated at having over 4000 participants by HPD. It is not organized by BikeHouston and we have no official relationship with the ride. However, we want to harness the potential of having so many people on bikes together at the same time each month. The ride departs from Market Square Park (301 Milam St) in downtown around 7-7:30pm on the last Friday each month. BikeHouston sets up an outreach table to promote following the rules of the road, building better bike lanes, and enhancing the education of all road users. We are uniting Houston with our 50,000 Houstonians for Bikes Campaign. Simply signing your name can make a big difference when it is on a petition alongside tens of thousands of other names. In addition, we sign-up members and may be selling t-shirts and other items. Please do stop by our table and speak with us. If just 75 people, 5% of the 1500 people that typically ride in Critical Mass, attend each Houston Bike Plan Meeting, it would be a much more powerful plan resulting in much more dedicated space for bikes. We promote following the rules of the road and being courteous to everyone on our streets. Only by uniting all Houstonians with bikes will we push Houston to evolve into a world class city.
