We have a new mayor taking office in just four weeks. While we don't yet know who our next mayor will be, we do know that we have a crisis on our hands: At least 16 people have been killed while riding bikes on Houston's streets to date in 2023. That's 16 too many.

• Meet at Market Square Park at 5:30 p.m.

• Roll out together at 5:45 p.m.

• Gather at Spring St and Houston Ave to rally for safe streets at 6 p.m.

The most recent fatal crash occurred two weeks ago on Houston Avenue, where a speeding driver struck James Midkiff and fled the scene. It happened just blocks south of where the bike lanes on Houston Avenue end. The City of Houston is has plans to improve Houston Avenue, but not the section where James was struck.

• Join us to demand a safe redesign of all of Houston Avenue.

• Join us to make sure the next mayor knows that traffic safety is public safety.

• Join us to remind the next mayor that we bike, we vote, and that we deserve — and will demand — safe streets.
